First Impressions
Walking up to Dwivedi Hotels Hotel Elena for the first time, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t look like much from the narrow lane leading to Rana Mahal Ghat. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. This three-star property sits right in the heart of old Varanasi, tucked between the ancient ghats where you can actually hear the morning prayers echoing off the Ganges. The building itself has that weathered charm you’d expect from a heritage area, and the staff genuinely seems happy to see you — not the rehearsed kind of happy, but the real deal.
The Ghat Life
Here’s the thing about the location — it’s absolutely unbeatable if you want to experience authentic Varanasi. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Dasaswamedh Ghat, which means you can stumble out of bed and catch the sunrise ceremony without fighting through crowds of tourists who stayed further away. I mean, couples are rating this spot 9.5 out of 10 for good reason. The evening aarti (prayer ceremony) happens right there, and when you’re done, you just slip back through the narrow alleys to your room instead of hunting for transport back to some distant hotel district.
What You’re Actually Getting
The rooms are clean and functional — nothing fancy, but honestly, you’re not here to hang out indoors anyway. The AC works (crucial during Varanasi summers), the beds are comfortable enough, and the bathrooms are properly maintained. What I really appreciated was the rooftop area where you can sit with a cup of chai and watch the organized chaos of the ghats below. The Wi-Fi actually works most of the time, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in the city.
Getting Around and Practicalities
Now, let’s talk logistics — this isn’t a place you can easily reach by car. The lanes around the ghats are narrow and often crowded, so you’ll probably end up walking the last bit with your luggage. But the hotel staff will meet you at a pickup point if you call ahead, which is pretty thoughtful. The restaurant situation is interesting too — while the hotel doesn’t have a full dining room, you’re surrounded by some of the best local eateries in Varanasi. Blue Lassi (famous for their lassi, obviously) is practically next door, and there are countless little places serving proper Banarasi food.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it puts you right in the middle of everything without the tourist bubble feeling. You’ll hear temple bells at dawn, smell incense drifting through your window, and watch pilgrims heading to the river for their morning rituals. The 7.6 rating reflects exactly what this hotel is — not perfect, but perfectly positioned for anyone who wants to experience Varanasi rather than just visit it. If you’re the type who values location over amenities and wants to feel like you’re actually staying in one of India’s most spiritual cities rather than just passing through, this is your spot.
Hotels near me in Uttar Pradesh deliver short rides to temple towns, craft villages, and sunrise boat rides.

Situated right next to main Ghat. We book Kashi for 2 nights and it was lovely to wake up and see the sunrise over Ganges river. I personally think it is worth the money. A plus for hot shower and good water pressure for 200 years old property.

Location was by the river - Excellent!
The room was clean and okay. It was not river-view room, which was previously declared, but the river view was possible from across the courtyard from a common balcony.

We’ve booked a Deluxe but got a free upgrade to a suite. A beautiful room with an amazing bed. The airco was the best we’ve had so far. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We were a bit sick and booked an extra night (same room for a Deluxe rate) Very kind!

Great location on the Ganges. The room had a water view. Decent sized spacious room with air conditioning and fans. Lots of bottled water provided. Comfy bed (which is the most important thing). Hot shower. Nice food in the restaurant off the menu. Ajay and his friendly staff were awesome. Able to organise day trips and transport too.
