First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Fortune International by Olive, you get that immediate sense that this is a solid, no-nonsense place to stay in Mathura. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — and honestly, that’s refreshing. The lobby has a clean, modern feel with marble floors and comfortable seating areas where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re disturbing some pristine display. The overall aesthetic strikes a balance between contemporary design and traditional hospitality.
Prime Location in the Holy City
The hotel sits right at Goverdhan chauraha, which is basically the sweet spot for exploring Mathura’s religious sites. You’re within walking distance of Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple — I mean, you can literally see the temple complex from some of the upper floors. What I really appreciated was how easy it made getting around; auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are constantly available right outside, and the main market area is just a short stroll away. The location genuinely makes sense for pilgrims and tourists alike. This positioning offers unparalleled access to the city’s spiritual landmarks and cultural attractions.
Comfortable Accommodations
The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for a mid-range hotel in this area. Clean white linens, decent air conditioning (which you’ll definitely need), and a bathroom that actually had hot water when promised. The furniture is simple but functional — a proper desk if you need to work, a comfortable chair, and enough storage space for a week’s worth of clothes. The windows offer either city views or glimpses of the temple area, depending on which side you’re on. Each apartment-style unit is thoughtfully designed for extended stays.
Practical Amenities
There’s an on-site restaurant that serves both North Indian and South Indian dishes — the thali was actually quite good, and they’re accommodating if you have specific dietary requirements (important in a pilgrimage city where many visitors are vegetarian). The staff speaks decent English and Hindi, obviously, and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and local recommendations. Parking is available, which is a real blessing in Mathura’s narrow, crowded streets. A kitchenette option is also available in select accommodations for guests preferring self-catering arrangements.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the combination of location and value. You’re paying a fair price for a clean, comfortable stay in exactly the right spot. The hotel attracts a lot of couples — apparently they rate it quite highly for romantic getaways, which makes sense given Mathura’s connection to Krishna’s love stories. The staff understands that most guests are here for the temples and spiritual experience, so they’re helpful with timing visits and arranging early morning wake-up calls for temple visits. It’s not fancy, but it gets everything right that actually matters when you’re exploring one of India’s most sacred cities.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Uttar Pradesh around Lucknow for teahouses, Chikankari studios, and evening dastarkhans.
